pwc looking to fill 1,000 graduate jobs next year
03-Nov-2009

PwC Looking To Fill 1,000 Graduate Jobs Next Year Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP (PwC), the accountancy company, has brought some good cheer to the graduate job market by saying that they will recruit 1,000 graduates and students in 2010.

PwC is the biggest single private sector employer in the UK and has kept up a strong graduate recruitment programme even during the financial downturn. Next year the firm will create even more opportunities by expanding its existing internship scheme, increasing the number of management consultant places and bringing new trainees into PwC Legal, a company under the PwC umbrella formerly known as Landwell.

Most of the graduate jobs on offer next year will be in PwC’s assurance business. There are also other graduate vacancies in their advisory and tax services. In addition there will be 200 internships and a business academy in the summer break for first year undergraduates.

In 2009, the number of students applying to Pricewaterhouse Coopers was up by almost half on 2008 and graduate jobs were awarded to students from around 90 different universities.

The vast majority of new starters this year fell in the 20-24 age range, with only around one in five graduate jobs going to those over 25. Also, around 2 in 5 graduates were not from degree subjects that you might expect such as accountancy. Candidates also came from a range of disciplines like engineering, science, geography and the arts.

The head of recruitment at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Sonja Stockton, said: “If anything, the war for talent has got more intense rather than less in the recession, for graduates and employers alike. This year’s recruitment campaign is not about maintaining our numbers, it’s about our ambition and growth in the market. Talented, enterprising people matching academic achievement with confidence in their skills, ability to learn and contribute will be recognised by our business.”

Stockton went on to say that students these days are being forced to learn ‘some of the hardest business lessons of their life’ but that the PwC employability skills campaign could give them the talents they needed to land a job.
