Tesco To Create 1,000 Full & Part Time Jobs In Newcastle

03 Nov 2009

Tesco To Create 1,000 Full & Part Time Jobs In Newcastle The banking arm of Tesco announced last week that it would be creating 1,000 new full or part time jobs in Newcastle.

The new jobs will be based at a customer service centre at Quorum Business Park and will look after home and motor insurance for its already substantial customer base.

Tesco Bank, in partnership with Fortis, has also created 1,000 new jobs in Glasgow and Edinburgh this year.

The chairman of Tesco Bank, Andrew Higginson, said that: “Tesco is building a different kind of bank - one that listens to customers, offers simple and transparent products and rewards loyalty.” He added that the new customer service jobs in Newcastle would help the company to provide both their existing and new banking and insurance customers with ‘the same great service they have come to expect in our stores.’

Lord Mandelson praised the recent news, saying that he welcomed it and was ‘proud of the government support that has helped make it happen.’ Mandelson said that the full and part time jobs being created would be priceless to the North East region and would help the broader economy too.

Speaking last week the Business Secretary said that, “It is hugely encouraging that Tesco has chosen to invest [in Newcastle]. The range of government support available is ensuring that people and businesses get the help they need to create new jobs across the whole of the country.”
