Graduate Job News

There would seem to be a glimmer of hope in the graduate job market at the moment as research is starting to show that 2010 may see a return to higher graduate intake by the major UK companies.

The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers List, published last week, suggests that those 100 employers are expecting to recruit 5 percent more people into graduate roles next year. After two years of decreasing graduate vacancies it comes as welcome news that the companies are advertising total vacancies next year of 15,884 – up from 15,057 this year.

The list also hints that the financial sector may have turned the corner with regards to graduate job recruitment. Banks were obviously battered by the financial crisis but seem to be displaying a few of the famous ‘green shoots’ of recovery as city investment banks expect to take on 20 percent more in 2010 than they did this year. And, other banks and the rest of the financial sector are looking to take on 8 percent more graduates next year.

Engineering and industrial companies from the Times Top 100 Graduate Employers List are hoping to recruit 10 percent more graduate in 2010 and the public sector expects to increase its vacancies by around the same figure.
