University of Worcester’s New Internships Scheme

27 Jul 2009

University of Worcester’s New Internships Scheme Are you studying in Herefordshire or Worcestershire and looking for internships? Well, the University of Worcester has announced details of a fantastic new internship scheme which will get under way in autumn. The Graduate Internship Scheme will help graduates in Herefordshire and Worcestershire who may otherwise struggle to secure employment this year.

New graduates will get 12 months of work experience with pay at the same time as studying for a Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Management. Enrolment will be free for this qualification and you will be released from your employer for one day to attend the course. The postgraduate course will help you gain an understanding in such areas as Management, Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Project Management. On completion of the certificate – and once you have gained some management experience – the award will count towards an MBA should you be interested in following that route.

The University of Worcester says that its aim with these internships is to support ‘businesses and students during the economic downturn and helping to equip them for the recovery.’

As well as funding the Postgraduate Certificate, the University will also pay a monthly £200 bursary to the internship students. David Green, vice-chancellor at Worcester, sais that, "This will enable them to keep body and soul together, not a lot more than that, but it will mean they won't get further into debt. But they will get trained and have the opportunity to get into the workforce, rather than have a terrible experience after graduation. Plus, they will remain a student, which means they have access to all our facilities."

The University of Worcester also stipulate that the companies involved must pay the graduates at least the minimum wage, adding that they can, of course, pay more if they wish.

If you will be a new graduate in Herefordshire or Worcestershire this year and are interested in this great internship opportunity then you can find more details on the university’s website.
