PricewaterhouseCoopers, the professional services company, landed people in 125 graduate jobs in their spring intake - and, they expect to fill another 800 graduate jobs in London and across the UK in the rest of the year.
The head of student recruitment at PwC, Sonja Stockton, said of the recruitment drive that, “For PwC it’s business as usual in terms of graduate recruitment. Competition for places is fierce and we’ve seen a 38% increase to date this year in applications to our full time programme, and 30% increase to our internship programme.
Graduates may have fewer job opportunities, but they still want high quality learning and development.”
Stockton added that the intake so far was ‘as diverse and dynamic a group as ever.’ Almost a third of the current crop is over 25 years old – almost double those of last year. And, nearly half of the recent recruits are arts, humanities, language, social sciences and engineering graduates.
PricewaterhouseCoopers recently won Top Graduate Employer 2009 awards in the accountancy and finance categories. More than 16,000 students voted in the awards. PwC has won the accountancy award for the last ten years but it marks the company’s first win of the finance sector award.
PwC will be recruiting more people into graduate jobs in London, the North West, South West and the Midlands over the rest of the year. Stockton urged students to think beyond London, stressing that your career can begin anywhere. She said that they have nationwide offices “where you can have a great start to your career and a strong platform for growth.”
The recent recruits have already started their careers at eight of PwC’s offices around the UK. Over the course of the next three years they will gain the skills and experience to achieve an Institute of Chartered Accountancy in England and Wales qualification.
