Graduate Job News

The government's Climate Change bill is encouraging graduate job growth in the renewable energy and utility sectors.

The recent draft bill outlined plans to cut carbon emissions by 60 per cent, from 1990 levels, by 2050.

Further investment in low-carbon fuels and technologies, such as wind, wave and solar power and carbon capture and storage, has also been promised.

As the Engineer reports, this is good news for those students planning careers in this sector - which is already experiencing unprecedented growth.

Jens-Peter Saul, managing director of Siemens Power Generation in the UK, said: "The market in the UK and worldwide is really exploding.

"There is outstanding growth, especially here, after many years of inactivity.

"The market is growing wildly. We have doubled our orders in the last year and will double them again this year."

Sarah Johnson, of British Energy, confirmed: "In general terms we are recruiting broadly across the organisation."

An increasing number of universities are now offering students the chance to study for qualifications in environmental issues such as climate change, as undergraduates as well as postgraduates.
