It is difficult to overstate how impressive internships and work experience can look on your post-university CV. And now, Norwich Union – in partnership with the Institute of Financial Planning - has announced an impressive-sounding six-week internship programme for people wishing to work in the advisory business sector.
Not only do you get the incredible opportunity of some invaluable work experience, with this internship there is also the added incentive of a £1000 cash prize.
There is a perceived gap in the financial advice sector and this sort of work experience initiative could be just the thing to help fill it by drawing the brightest graduates into the industry. Norwich Union, owned by Aviva – the UK’s biggest largest insurance group – hope to launch the full Future Adviser Programme early in 2009.
The structure of the internship is that it will take place over a six-week period in the summer holidays. Two of the six weeks will be with a successful advisory company and will be hosted by Bankhall, Tenet and The Money Portal.
A pilot scheme has already been launched at the Manchester Metropolitan University Business School. Aviva says that there will be a high-profile competition to find the students with the best potential. There will be six winners and thirty runners-up who will benefit from the work experience and who will also receive a profile on Norwich Union's Adviser Sales Centre extranet.
The Dean of MMUBS, Huw Morris said: ‘Our students will derive enormous personal benefit from the practical experience which is a significant part of the reward for the winners of this competition.’
Aviva’s website says that, ‘the initiative is intended to complement Norwich Union's Financial Adviser Academy, which was launched in March, and provides a comprehensive programme of support for advisers studying to attain an accredited QCA level four qualification.’ The successful undergraduates could go onto complete the Certified Financial Planner programme and end up with a very rewarding career.
