How would you like one of the 150 graduate jobs with high-street fast-food retailer McDonald’s? That is how many trainee business manager places they are expecting to fill in 2009.
McDonald’s Restaurants probably need no introduction to you. But, did you know that it’s considered to be a great place to secure a graduate job? They have been in The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers list - based on the opinions of over 15,000 final-year university students – in each of the last ten years. They were also the overall winner of the award. ‘Best Place to Work in Hospitality 2008.’
The McDonald’s website informs that successful applicants will take part in an intensive 18-week Management Development Programme which it says is designed to, ‘give you the talents needed for a long-term management career.’ You will receive a grounding in all aspects of commercial management – including training in human resources, finance and marketing.
On completion of the 18-week course you would work with a restaurant management team and could hope to lose the ‘trainee’ tag within two or three years – becoming a fully-fledged Business Manager with an expected package worth £45,000. Even at the very beginning of your graduate job, you can expect to be on a minimum starting salary of £21,500 – more for the graduate jobs in London.
Other benefits you can expect from a career with McDonald’s include 25 days holiday (rising to 30 days after 3 years), a paid sabbatical of two months for every 10 years, life assurance cover and optional contribution to the company pension scheme.
The website says that you should expect the entire recruitment process to take between four to eight weeks. So, if you’d like to discover which came first – the Chicken McNugget or the Egg McMuffin – then get in early and try to land one of next year’s intake of graduate jobs.
