The City of London has become increasingly accepting of homosexuality, according to new research.
Popular graduate careers in the finance sector, such as banking and insurance, have a reputation of intolerance towards openly gay employees.
However, a study suggests that numbers of gay graduates employed in City careers have risen substantially due to new diversity initiatives.
As reported in PinkNews, research by financial services recruiter Joslin Rowe Associates concludes that 8.2 per cent of City workers are gay, a rise of over two per cent in two years.
Tara Ricks, managing director of Joslin Rowe said: "Traditionally the City was perceived as white, heterosexual and male, which put off many gay and lesbian applicantsÂ….times have changed and diversity is now at the centre of recruitment and human resources policy.
"Many firms now actively target gay undergraduates, for example, something that was not the case five or ten years ago."
The City of London is a popular location for many new graduates and provides thousands with highly-paid and prestigious careers.
