Companies have been entering the virtual internet world "Second Life" to attract the best recruits - and now students themselves have decided to get in on the action.

Art Students from Goldsmiths University in London are to stage their degree show in Second Life, in a bid to attract the widest possible audience.

Second Life characters - called "avatars" - will present digital versions of the students' work, in a virtual version of the Truman Brewery on Brick Lane, where the actual art works will be on show.

Course tutor Matt Ward told the BBC: "This expands the reach of [the students'] degree show and allows them to present themselves to a far larger audience, in ways that can only improve and enhance their work."

Student Emily O 'Dwyer, who has a presence at the virtual show, said: "The class were all in favour of utilising the most up to date methods of digital communication in order to make our degree show as accessible as possible.

"Now it doesn't matter where you are in the world, you can still see our show and even meet us at our event."
