Industry searches for top electronics talent A leading information provider in the electronics industry has launched its search for the "Student Engineer of the Year".

In association with Rapid Electronics, Electronics Weekly has invited universities to enter into the competition their most promising students in the fields of electronics and software.

Ben Howard, manager for further and higher education at Rapid Electronics, said the competition would provide "an excellent platform for the students who, without any doubt, will soon be making big impressions within industry".

Both undergraduate and postgraduate students will be eligible for the award.

The international electronics industry is growing rapidly and is constantly evolving to reflect technological breakthroughs.

A recent study by the Consumer Electronics Association in the US found that the average American household spends $1,200 (around £600) on electronics alone.

UK students also own more electronic equipment than ever before.

A recent survey for Direct Line Home Insurance revealed that students typically own a wide range of expensive equipment including iPods, laptops and widescreen televisions.
