Supermarket recruitment launched

11 May 2007

Supermarket recruitment launched Aldi has launched an undergraduate sponsorship programme.

The company is offering University of Liverpool students the opportunity to take part in the Aldi Apprentice 2007, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Students from the university's school of cultures, languages and area studies will go through the process of a mock job application at Aldi. The winning student will receive a £500 prize.

Those interested in working for the company upon graduation can then apply for a number of area management training positions.

Successful applicants will receive attractive starting salaries of £39,000, along with extras including a car, a pension and health insurance.

The scheme will give students the opportunity to gain some experience of a professional retail environment while still at university.

News of the launch follows recent surveys which highlight the current UK business skills shortage.

Students are graduating with good academic qualifications, but figures in the business and hospitality sectors have highlighted what they see as a lack of practical business and interpersonal skills amongst many job applicants.
