good news for student accountants

Good news for student accountants Good news for students considering a career in accounting. Chartered accountants are in such high demand that their salaries now average nearly £80,000, research indicates.

A study has been conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and recruitment consultancy Robert Half Finance & Accounting.

The research reveals that the average salary of a chartered accountant is £79,400. This rises in the financial services sector to a whopping £85,000.

As reported by Onrec.com, Phil Sheridan, managing director of Robert Half Finance & Accounting, said: "These salaries are very much reflective of the demand that exists today for skilled finance professionals.

"Chartered accountants have a significant role to play in organisations across all sectors and these higher level salaries are indicative of this."

It seems that you really can be rich and happy in your job, too. Some 81 per cent of accountants responding to the survey said they were happy in their current roles and 76 per cent were content with their work-life balance.

Students do not have to study maths or finance as their first degree if they want to train as accountant when they graduate.

Many arts and science students choose to join financial services companies as new graduates and sit the series of professional accountancy exams when they are in employment.
