nhs launches new careers service
25-Jun-2007

NHS launches new careers service The NHS is launching a new careers service for young people, with a view to inspiring them to work at the NHS.

A free service will aim to engage unemployed youngsters and graduates by stimulating them to think about the ways in which their strengths could help them secure an NHS career.

Located at stepintothenhs.nhs.uk, the site uses case studies to show visitors what NHS working life is like.

Employees to give first person accounts include Scott Elliot, an exercise physiologist and smoking cessation advisor in Kent, as well as Grant Blackwell, a healthcare assistant in Southend.

There will also be a series of films delivered by real staff.

'Wildlife' follows a young healthcare scientist through the hospital where she works, while 'Ramp' offers a view of A&E through an injured skateboarder's eyes.

In addition the site an provides visitors with an interactive career mapper that will take visitors to the five careers that suit their interests while giving them the chance to receive ongoing, personalised communication from the NHS Careers team.

The NHS offers around 350 different careers, including jobs for IT analysts, auditors, scientists and, more surprisingly, gardeners and chaplains.

A careers adviser, Alan Simmons, will be available at the site from Wednesday June 27th from 13.00-13.30 to answer further questions.
