Key variables for comparing broadband deals:

• Set Up Costs - Is the broadband modem included or do you have to pay for it separately? Is there a broadband activation fee?
• Broadband Speed - Broadband is quicker than dial up internet but there are also different Broadband speeds ranging from 512 kilo bits per second to 24 Mega Bits per second (the latter being the quickest). Depending on what you want to use the internet for, it may be worth your while paying more for the quickest broadband connection. Whatever your requirements, make sure you are comparing prices for the same broadband speed.
• Broadband Usage Limit - Some broadband packages have monthly limits on how much bandwidth you can use, others are unlimited. For most casual internet users, 1GB per month will be ample but if you are planning on downloading lots of music or running multiple computers from the same broadband connection then you may need to consider the monthly usage limit offered by different Internet Service Providers.
• Contract - Due to the costs to Internet Service Providers of setting up your broadband connection, most tie you in to a minimum 12 or 18 month contract. There are some "no ties" broadband packages available but they sometimes charge a disconnection fee if you leave them before 12 months, so check the broadband comparison chart above for full details of who does what!
• Phone Line Operator - Most broadband suppliers deliver broadband down a standard BT phone line (which means you have to pay line rental on top of broadband prices). However, some ISP's deliver their broadband services via cable services so make sure the supplier you choose is compatible with the phone services at your house!
• Bonus Features - Some broadband packages throw in bonus features such as e-mail addresses, webspace and spam protection. These bonus freebies may help you make a final decision between broadband deals!
