Virgin Media are currently offering Alcatel’s bright pink VM800 smartphone on Pay-As-You-Go for just £49.99 – and that includes a tenner’s worth of airtime as well as unlimited internet access free and unlimited text messages for the first six months. Now, that really is a mobile phone deal to get you thinking!

To qualify for the free internet you will need to top up by at least £15 a month otherwise you will have to shell out 30p a day for the privilege. If you only top up by £10 you will also only get 300 free text messages each month.

If you prefer to go the monthly contract route then the VM800 can be yours for free on plans starting at £10 a month with a 100 free minutes and 500 texts thrown in.

The VM800 comes with Facebook, Bebo and other applications all ready to use and the QWERTY keyboard makes texting and emailing a breeze. It’s a bit like a shocking-pink Blackberry for a fraction of the price.

You can adjust some settings on the VM800 to add shortcuts to your most used applications to speed up the experience further and the web browser uses EDGE to transfer data at high speeds.

Also on the VM800, which is actually a Virgin rebranded Alcatel OT-800, is a 2 megapixel camera with 4x zoom, Bluetooth, a radio, a few games (and more available by download) and a music player. The basic VM800 has 20MB of memory but that is expandable up to 4GB.
