Best Job in the world

29 Dec 2011

Ok – we’ve all got dreams about our favourite jobs… beer or chocolate taster, famous footballer, you name it.

A couple of years ago Queensland Tourism launched the “best job in the world” recruitment drive, claiming that the job they had on offer was the best one ever. Over 34,000 people applied so it must have been pretty good – but what was the job, and how much work was it?

The job was for an Island Caretaker – to live on Hamilton Island for 6 months, in luxury accommodation (3 bedroom multi-million dollar villa with swimming pool), and get paid around £70,000 (AUSD 150,000) for the 6 month job. Naturally transportation there and around the islands was included in the package

The recruit would have to work for just 12 hours a month and duties include feeding some of the hundreds of species of fish and collecting the island’s mail. The successful candidate would also be expected to write a blog, keep a photo diary and record regular video updates to attract tourists to the area.

The official video for the best job states the responsibilities for the applicant are as follows:

- Clean the pool

- Feed the fish

- Collect the mail

- Explore and report back

Not bad eh! I think this would be one of my dream jobs – what about yours? If you could do anything you want (other than nothing!!!) what would you want to do?
