| More Credit Cards Offering Double Incentives | |

After we posted yesterday about the Barclaycard Platinum credit card we noticed that there seems to be an increase in the number of credit cards offering double incentives to new customers. We mentioned in that last blogpost about how an added bonus of the Barclaycard Platinum credit card was that it also included a sweetener with the Barclaycard Freedom reward scheme which gets you discount at various shops around the UK. We’ve since seen that other credit cards are again starting to offer such double incentives to entice new customers. These sorts of credit card deals had almost dried up through the recession, so such new double benefit offers could be a sign of renewed consumer confidence on the high street being picked up on by the credit card companies. As well as the reward scheme on the Barclaycard Platinum, we also spotted similar credit card deals from other providers such as Tesco, American Express and the AA. Double offers like these could be saving people quite a tidy sum if they are used smartly. We’ve already blogged about the reward benefits of the Tesco credit card through the Clubcard scheme at the end of last month. And now we’ve also discovered that American Express is giving 5 per cent cash back on purchases for the first three months – and then 1.25 per cent after that – on its Platinum credit card. In addition, the AA are offering reward points of up to 2 per cent of purchases for customers who take out their breakdown cover. Even credit card customers who don’t have breakdown cover from the AA are receiving up to 1 per cent in rewards. There are probably more credit card deals like these around at the moment and there will certainly be more in the future. It is all quite encouraging that new incentives are coming into the credit card market and we are going to be keeping an eye of for any more sweeteners that the providers are offering. These sorts of double incentives are just one of the things we consider when we are updating our page of student credit card deals. We also weigh up other factors such as APR, balance transfer rates and interest free periods. Why don’t you compare student credit card deals today and find out which would be the best one for you? |
