Credit Card Interest Rates Lowered By Co-operative Bank

New ‘Clear’ credit card customers of the Co-operative Bank could benefit from a reduced APR of 11.9% with a new special offer. To qualify applicants must already have, or be prepared to open, certain current accounts with the bank.

The move marks a one per cent decrease from the company’s traditional standard interest of 12.9% and could save credit card customers a tidy sum if they leave outstanding balances on their account each month.

The discounted rate is a special offer for new credit card customers who also hold a Current Account Plus, Privilege or Privilege current account with the Co-operative Bank.

In addition to the 11.9% special rate, there is also the additional incentive of a 2.9% balance transfer rate. Now, you may well have seen some credit card deals which offer 0% on balance transfers but it always worth checking if there is a transfer fee involved – and with this particular credit card promotion there is no fee at all.

Other features of this credit card offer from the Co-operative Bank include: no charge for cash withdrawals, no annual fee, up to £25,000 travel accident insurance, 5% discount on certain holidays and up to 59 days interest free credit if the credit card is paid off in full.

It is worth noting, however, that holding the standard current account from the Co-operative Bank does not qualify you for the special rate. If at any time you downgrade from the Current Account Plus, Privilege or Privilege current account to the standard current account then your interest rate will go back up to 12.9%.

While this is a good credit card offer for certain people, it may not suit everyone. Also, a lot of our student readers may not be eligible for the credit card as a gross annual income of £10,000 is required. If you are hoping to apply for a credit card which is ideal for students then you will be well rewarded by comparing the best offers on our Student Credit Card Deals page.
