Tesco, the supermarket giant, have upped the game with the launch of their new credit card. The Tesco Clubcard Credit Card comes in at zero per cent interest on all purchases for 13 months and allows balance transfers – also at zero per cent interest for 9 months. Don’t forget to take into account the fact that there is a 2.9 per cent fee though on the balance transfer offer with the Tesco credit card. It is the 13 month part of this credit card deal that is outstanding though as that is one of longest periods of zero interest we have ever seen. Once you factor in the detail that you also get one Tesco Clubcard point for every £4 you spend on anything it is difficult to see this credit card not being heavily applied for. In addition to that, the credit card is actually a Clubcard too. This means that Tesco credit card holders get 2 Clubcard points for every £1 they spend at Tesco and 1 point for petrol from Tesco petrol filling stations. Clubcard points can be redeemed for vouchers to be spent at Tesco or their partners such as Café Rouge, Cineworld or Pizza Express. Commercial banking director for Tesco Bank, David McCreadie, pointed out that somewhere in the region of 10 per cent of UK credit card purchases are paid for with a Tesco credit card. McCredie said, “Our customers tell us that they value earning Clubcard points wherever they use the card. By extending our 0% purchase offer, our cardholders will benefit from the longest introductory free purchase offer currently available in the UK as well as earning points whenever they use the card.” The Tesco Credit Card may or may not be the best one for students.
