I mentioned in one of my previous blogs that APACS had reported that 5 of the main credit card providers were going to voluntarily share more data about their customers. Whereas previously the only information shared was about late payments, credit limits and also current balances, the new agreement will let credit card companies see if customers or potential customers are currently on promotional deals, and how they make repayments. Although it has been stated that this extra information is only to help credit card providers lend responsibly, and to be able to find out more about customers who might in the future get into financial difficulty, there has been a suggestion that if a credit card provider sees that a potential customer has been a “rate tart” and is just using cards and applications to transfer balances and pay off the minimum whilst avoiding interest payments, then this new information may allow the credit card provider to reject applications for “non-profitable” customers. To find the best balance transfer deals check out our students credit card page Although this is just speculation, if you now make a credit card application, the company will be able to find out a lot about your previous and current credit card spending and usage. Only time will really tell if they use it for this purpose though |
