This is a question I get asked a lot – “are the credit cards which are dedicated student credit cards best for me if I’m a student?” It’s a pretty difficult one to answer, and I always now start by asking why do you want a credit card in the first place. Student credit cards can be fantastic, no doubt about it. They have perks and generally fairly low interest rates. The lending tends to be very responsible and the maximum’s are not very high. But.. if you’re looking to move a balance, or get some interest free on purchases, then a specific student credit card may not be the way forward.
