Why do Barclays have a credit card for students?

Barclays have a dedicated “student credit card” – and you can find out more information about it on comparison chart, but what makes this card different and why have Barclays introduced it?

Barclays prides itself on being a responsible lender, and provides a wealth of information on the pros and cons of credit cards, the best credit card deals, and how to spend responsibly, as well as the reasons you may be accepted or rejected for a card.

The student credit card provides some interesting features though

a) Low APR

14.9% typical variable is extremely competitive!

b) Manageable credit limit

A minimum of £250 but more if your credit score is ok, or if you have shown that you will be able to comfortably repay the debt

c) Text reminders of payment due or set up a direct debit

A great way to ensure that you don’t miss your payment deadline date

d) Cinema Tickets

Between 6 and 12 cinema tickets (for 12 tickets you have to get the student barclaycard as well as opening a Barclays Student Additions account and you have to deposit £500 in it)

e) Discounts

With the student Barclaycard you get loads of discounts:

- 20% off gifts from buyagift.com

- 25% of Lonely Planet guides

- In association with Thomas Cook, 7% off holidays with over 150 tour operators, including late deals

- 20% off Domino’s when you spend £20 or more

- Discounts on Snapfish

Overall there’s some pretty excellent features with this credit card, and you can find more about it on our Student credit card page.
