O2 To Place A Limit On Their Unlimited Broadband?

A hot topic regarding internet deals at the moment is the whole question of what constitutes ‘Unlimited’ broadband. So, with O2 in the headlines, we thought now might be a good time to bring up the issue of what exactly unlimited internet deals might actually mean in practise.

We have been hearing a few murmurs and rumours knocking about on the internet that mobile provider O2 are currently trying to place a limit on their unlimited broadband package. There are even suggestions that O2 may disconnect some users who they deem to be using their unlimited broadband service excessively.

The dictionary in our office at E4S says that ‘unlimited’ is an adjective meaning ‘not limited; infinite.’ – which is pretty much how we tend to use the word as well. Rumours are flying around forums and discussion boards though that the O2 dictionary definition of ‘unlimited’ means something more along the lines of ‘not more than 10GB a month.’

Apparently some users of the O2 unlimited broadband package have received letters discouraging overuse of the unlimited part of broadband deals. There has even been mention that O2 has already disconnected some broadband users for excessive use. Although there is no official limit at the moment, some forums we have seen seem to suggest that 40GB a month may be the tipping point for a red card from O2.

The O2 website doesn’t give any actual limit that we can find, but does say that most O2 broadband customers use less than 10GB a month – and that if you aim for that then you will be okay.

This all shows that it really is best to check out all of the options from different internet providers when you are considering new broadband deals. Internet prices are not the only factor to take into consideration so make sure you weigh in all other aspects of the internet deals too. Compare all of the latest broadband, phone and TV deals on the E4S website now to make sure you get the exact broadband package or internet deal you are looking for.
